Best bets for July 19-20

Posted by on July 18, 2013 in Best bets, Forecast

Anyone who’s spent the last several days prepping to hold a yard sale this weekend, we salute you. It’s been hotter than blue blazes, and we’re not going to see much relief until at least Sunday.

So prepare for a hot time selling this weekend.  Check the forecast here.

Lots of good yard sales in the Dispatch classifieds. Here’s our suggestions:

  • Pine Springs Community Yard Sale near Shrewsbury is Friday and Saturday starting at 7 a.m. From Fenton glass to military items, this one says it has something for everyone. GPS 111 Farmview Drive.
  • An estate sale at 300 Old Orchard Lane (off South Queen, behind the Dairy Queen), features 40-plus years worth of stuff Saturday and Sunday 8-4 p.m. This one sounds great based on the ad: “Hey Macklemore, we’ve got granddad’s clothes! Plus this gem, which we encourage all yard-salers to use: “Early birds pay double.”
  • Sunset Terrace in Dallastown is holding its 31st annual development yard sale Friday and Saturday. Parents of college kids: this one has dorm stuff.
  • A multi-family yard sale at 105 Steinfelt Road in Red Lion bills itself as  “humongous.” And warns: “NO early birds.” (Ah, we love a yard-saler who can take charge.)
  • In East York, the Crestwood East Neighborhood Yard Sale is Friday and Saturday 8-4 p.m. More than 21 houses. Ad says: “DO NOT MISS OUT!”
  • We like this idea: A patio yard sale is being held Friday and Saturday 7-4 p.m. at 2445 Hepplewhite Drive in the ODCC area. We’ve heard of garage yard sales, but a patio setting is a new one. Kinda classy, huh?

Yard Sale Secrets, in conjunction with The York Dispatch and the York Newspaper Co., now has a yard sale app for iPhone and Android phones. The app helps you locate all the yard sales advertised on MediaOnePa, which includes sites in York, Hanover, Chambersburg and Lebanon. Zip to the bottom of this page for a link to the app.

Yep, the Yard Sale Secrets has adopted Twitter. We might only use it sporadically, but we welcome you to join us. We especially hope to use it on Saturdays (and some Fridays) when we are out on the road. Join Yard Sale Secrets on Twitter now!
